EUGENE F. McCORMICK 

Mr. McCormick has over 40 years of diversified experience in the ocean transport industry, from a strategic and consultant perspective.  He is well known and respected worldwide for his depth of understanding of the strategic importance of the relationship among carriers, shippers, and service providers, including ports, labor and transportation systems – intermodal, truck and rail. And his professional expertise in both foreign and domestic operations, intermodal transportation, port and terminal operations and revenue generation has positioned him to be of considerable assistance to worldwide clients as they search to improve their competitive position in the global marketplace. 

As a founding partner of The McCormick Jahncke Group, Mr. McCormick has been responsible for strategic assessments for port authorities, a major ship builder, ocean carriers and numerous industrial corporations resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars of both revenue generation and cost avoidance. 

Mr. McCormick serves as President of the United States Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Foundation. The Foundation raises approximately $6 million a year from private donations to support the Academy and the midshipmen activities to achieve their margin of excellence. 

Mr. McCormick was President and COO of Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., Inc., America's third largest liner shipping company.  Mr. McCormick selected and led a management team that developed and implemented strategic business plans resulting in revenue growth of over 300%.  His innovative approach of developing long term strategic partnerships with customers, suppliers, stevedores, terminal operators, labor and competitors resulted in maximized asset utilization, improved customer service and reduced cost, and earned him worldwide respect. 

As Chief Financial Officer, Mr. McCormick successfully managed the integration with its new $8 billion parent company, The LTV Corporation and later developed the strategic financial business plan for the repurchase and privatization of Lykes Bros. Steamship Co.  As CFO, Mr. McCormick negotiated over $2.0 billion in financing transactions with financial institutions worldwide.

Mr. McCormick holds a B.S. degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and an M.S. in Transportation from Northwestern University. He has held a U.S. Coast Guard License as Chief Mate Ocean vessels of any gross tons.

Mr. McCormick serves on the Business Advisory Council for the Transportation Center of Northwestern University, is a contributing member of the American Association of Port Authorities, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Cabrini Mission Foundation.

 

 

BARTON W. B. JAHNCKE 

During Mr. Jahncke's 33-year international transportation career, he has been responsible for all phases of the sales process including management of the worldwide sales division of a major international ocean transportation company and development and implementation of a Corporate Accounts program.  His personal commitment to quality service and strong interpersonal skills have earned him the respect of exporters and importers, freight forwarders, custom house brokers, and trade organizations worldwide. 

Mr. Jahncke is a founding partner of The McCormick Jahncke Group.  The McCormick Jahncke Group is made up of international transportation executives with expertise in the disciplines of finance, operations, technology, business development, and communications.  Their practical experience and international network are focused to provide practical business solutions for their clients. The Group’s clients include railroads, labor unions, shipbuilders, vessel owners and operators, multinational importers and exporters, ports, terminals, and stevedoring operators.  

Mr. Jahncke has developed and managed a global industry network of key executives upon which the firm relies to help develop strategic assessments for port authorities, major ship builders, ocean carriers and industrial corporations.  He has been responsible as team leader and project manager for the marketing strategy projects of the firm. His project management responsibility includes projects requiring direct contact with senior executives of carrier and shipper organizations.  Professional expertise in global sales management and customer relationships ensures clients keep a competitive advantage. Global networks include Procter and Gamble, Federated Dept. Stores, Union Carbide and E. I. Dupont, Ford and General Motors, Caterpillar, Bechtel Corp. and Morrison-Knudsen, and, also Rhone Poulanc, Monsanto, Dow Chemical and American Cast Iron Pipe, as well as multinational custom house brokers and freight forwarders. 

As Vice President - Corporate Sales, he developed and implemented customer strategies in a four year period in which commercial revenue increased from $230 million to $525 million. Mr. Jahncke has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, South Africa, South America, the Far East, Canada, and Mexico, successfully implementing long-term strategic partnership programs with the world's largest multinational corporations.  Such partnerships required detailed negotiations regarding total logistics capability, contract pricing, and customer service on both sides of the ocean.  He has worked extensively with U.S. and foreign governmental agencies, as well as with major international project managers and consolidators. 

Mr. Jahncke is well respected among the domestic rail and motor freight community, worldwide port authorities, and international trade associations.  He has worked closely with the Chemical Manufacturers Association, the Wines and Spirits Importers, Green Coffee Association, and the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America, Inc. 

Mr. Jahncke holds a BBA from Tulane University in New Orleans.  He is a member of the World Trade Club of New Orleans, the Traffic and Transportation Club of New Orleans, National Industrial Transportation League, and New Orleans Board of Trade and has been a member of the National Freight Transportation Association, National Maritime Council, Committee of American Steamship Lines and Georgia Foreign Trade Council.  Mr. Jahncke earned a Gold Medal in yachting in the XIX Olympiad in Mexico City and is a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame of Tulane University.

 

ELIZABETH A. WETZEL 

Ms. Wetzel has been involved with international transportation for over 20 years, working until 1991 for Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., Inc., in managerial capacities, and since then as owner of her own consulting company.  Ms. Wetzel’s 22 years in process design of logistics supply chains, procurement and international transportation, benefits clients in improving productivity and specific performance, cost margins, profits and expanding market share.  Experience in senior consulting positions in global consulting firms, working with all arenas of transportation – carriers, trucks, rails and shippers; providing financial and information technology expertise for a leading international ocean transportation organization combine to bring a well rounded experience to clients. 

Clients include major multinational service providers and customers of transportation services, including a variety of manufacturing companies, including chemical manufacturers and oil and gas companies, other shippers, warehouse and distribution companies, ports, carriers, and related firms.  

Ms. Wetzel has developed extensive project management experience in process improvements and technology. As a transportation expert for a major multinational consulting firm, Ms. Wetzel provides the practical experienced perspective on supply chain logistics and transportation procurement to the company's clients throughout the world. Facilitation with client teams to implement practical solutions resulted in dollar benefits for transportation procurement and operations totaling in excess of $28 million per year for several chemical manufacturing clients. Cost savings and productivity improvements developed for a distribution company client in the logistics supply chain and supporting information technology produced improvements for clients greater than $2 million and resulted in the on-time successful start up of a major automated distribution center. The successful start up of a Central American liner backhaul service for a European fruit distributor generated profits within eight months.  

As Vice President-Treasurer for Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., Inc., Ms. Wetzel completed financing negotiations exceeding $570 million with financial institutions worldwide; managed $100 million/year U.S. Government contract; implemented working capital information systems, business procedures and benchmark quality metrics worldwide to achieve a savings of $20 million annually.  As Vice President-Marketing, led project management system design team for global pricing, cargo, movement and documentation system, installed in over 400 offices worldwide.  As Manager of Planning, developed and instituted appropriate performance measurements for the key operating areas of the company and analyzing results for senior management. 

Ms. Wetzel holds a BA in English from Newcomb College, an MBA from Tulane University where she was on the Dean's List, and attended the University of Warwick in Coventry, England.  Ms. Wetzel was a member of the Louisiana Governor's Task Force to eliminate an $800 million budget deficit.  The New Orleans Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, national fraternal organization, awarded her Alumna of the Year for 1999.

 

ARDLEY R. HANEMANN, JR. 

For 14 years, Ardley Hanemann, Jr., served as Vice President of Corporate Relations for the third largest ocean transportation company in the world.  In this position he held primary responsibility for all media relations, employee communications, advertising, training, and sales promotion, as well as the design, direction, and implementation of communications for organizational reengineering efforts.  His post as chief spokesman for the company necessitated a daily dialogue with media around the world.  Crisis management entailed an intimate knowledge of the maritime industry and ongoing relationships with vendors and financial institutions.  He has traveled extensively throughout Europe, the United Kingdom, the Mediterranean, South Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East meeting with representatives of maritime lending institutions, labor unions, port authorities, and critical media personnel. 

Mr. Hanemann has more than 30 years experience in public relations, financial and employee communications, print and electronic production, and event coordination.  

He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Public Relations degree from Loyola University where he was named Outstanding Journalism Graduate.  His continuing education includes programs at the University of Michigan, the University of Virginia, Southern Methodist University, and Kent State University.  He is a certified instructor in the Management of Change and has conducted seminars throughout the country.  He is the recipient of numerous professional and civic awards. 

In 1994, he became a founding partner of Vooss Hanemann Associates, an advertising, public relations, and communications firm developing all forms of internal and external communications programs, advertising, media relations, and community relations projects.  The principals of Vooss Hanemann have a ten-year working relationship and more than forty combined years of experience in the fields of public relations, internal and external communications, media relations, and publishing. The firm has long-standing relationships with major worldwide publications.

 

MICHAEL F. GUIDO

Mr. Guido has over thirty years of extensive industry and consulting experience.  He is an internationally recognized practitioner and author in procurement strategies and strategic sourcing.  In 1996, he was the lead speaker at the Promon Industries Business Conference in São Paulo, Brazil.  He specializes in strategic consulting in the value chain practice with global expertise in procurement and materials management.  He has directed global procurement projects during the last fifteen years.  His most recent consulting projects have included procurement programs in the automotive and diversified industries and chemical practices.  Major clients include Arco, BellSouth, FMC, Hughes Aircraft, ICI Chemicals, Philip Morris, and Kaiser Permanente.

Mr. Guido was Director of Procurement at a multinational $6 billion medical products and distribution company.  During his eight years other positions included director in international operations strategy and manager of global planning.  As staff director, he developed long range manufacturing plans that included facilities, staffing, foreign investments/divestitures, contingency plans, and technology requirements.  He also designed the long-range computer system strategy that included domestic/international hardware and software plans with databases and telecommunications networks. 

Prior to industry, Mr. Guido managed consulting engagements in manufacturing, distribution, maintenance, and systems.  Major projects included: design of a maintenance/procurement strategy for the Alaska pipeline that determined the locations and type of maintenance for vehicles and operations reviews for both tank and helicopter companies involved in defense contracts. Realized savings from the implementation program exceeded $48 million.  Other major experiences include consulting manager at Booz Allen, Systems and Planning Manager-Raychem, and Production Manager- Colgate Palmolive. 

Mr. Guido holds an undergraduate degree in Business from San Jose State University and an MBA from Golden Gate University with a major in planning and controlling systems.  He was a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Santa Clara.  He has been published in Purchasing ("Journey into the Near Future C Multinational Purchasing Management Systems") and Purchasing World ("Don't Overlook Vendors in Your Capacity Planning").

 

MICHAEL L. VOOSS 

With a career evolving from experience at client, agency, and media concerns, Michael Vooss has developed a unique understanding of the dynamics of the advertising client/agency relationship. 

Mr. Vooss began his career at Forbes magazine, where he developed support materials for the publication=s advertising sales efforts and created promotional literature.  He later progressed through the Media and Account Services departments of Homer & Durham Advertising in Manhattan, where he maintained a number of the companys key accounts, including:  American Savings Bank, Barber West Africa Line, Citicorp, NA (7 divisions), The Finnish Tourist Board, Hyatt Hotels - The U.N. Plaza Hotel, New York, and Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., Inc. 

After leaving the agency, he became Director of Advertising and Public Relations at Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., Inc., where he was recruited to develop the company's in-house advertising and public relations agency, which he maintained for seven years. 

Mr. Vooss is one of the principals of Vooss Hanemann Associates, Inc., a strategic partner to the McCormick Jahncke Group, providing advertising, public relations, corporate communications, and event coordination services to a diverse client base, which has included:  Gulf Africa Line (Ocean cargo transport - Houston, TX), Insurance Underwriters (Insurance providers - New Orleans, LA), The Krewe of Orpheus (Mardi Gras Parade - New Orleans, LA), Lemle & Kelleher, LLP (Attorneys at Law - New Orleans, LA), The Marketing Directors (Real estate marketing - New York, NY), The McFarland Institute (Charitable organization - New Orleans, LA), and Nordana Line (Ocean cargo transport - Houston, TX).

Mr. Vooss has held board positions with both the Containerisation and Intermodal Institute  (CII) and the Association of Steamship Advertising and Promotion (ASAP), is a member of the Advertising Club of New York, and has been an invited speaker at the World Trade Institute at New York’s World Trade Center.  Located in the New York offices of Vooss Hanemann Associates, he is a graduate of the State University of New York at Albany and the Bronx High School of Science.
